I hope this format will allow us all to visit a bit longer and not be so rushed. Last year I felt as though I didn't get to visit with everyone nearly enough.

I had a question about this. Does this mean we should bring plants that we would like to trade or sell?

That does sound like fun. I am sure I am some really good "stuff" that someone else could use. And lots of baby plants.

Some updates.

I have a contract from the Hampton Inn on Lancaster Ave. in Salem that will be the hotel headquarters for the clinic. The Red Lion is going through an extensive renovation and will be much better after that but I thought it best NOT to be in a construction zone this year. The Hampton also offers a breakfast and the rooms are a lot newer than the Red Lion's too. As soon as all this clears you will be able to register using the "Hybridizer's Clinic" to get the special rate. These rooms will be available up to the first week of April.

We ran into a little snaffu at the German restaurant for Friday night. They wouldn't give us the separate room with individual checks but they would give us one long table that will seat us all. I'm going to also check on a nice little place right next to the Hampton Inn that has wonderful food to see if they could pull it off. The hotel is also very close to McGrath's Seafood and a Japanese steakhouse that would be fun options too.

Anyway, we're getting closer!

Kevin

So, I am trying to figure out how many nights I need at the hotel.

According to Google, it is a 2 hour drive from St. Helens to Dallas where everything kicks off at 9:00 am at Lynn's house. I am an early riser (usually 5 am) so I would think I would have time to drive down on Friday morning. So I would only need a hotel from Friday and Saturday night.

Or do I want to be lazy and go down Thursday and stay 3 nights. I guess I better decide.

Melissa,

If you want to avoid the Portland rush hour traffic you might want to do Thursday night. It is MISERABLE coming in from Vancouver although you can get on the 205 to avoid downtown Portland at least. The WA group does a marathon drive down but I'm not sure when they leave.

Just out weeding (and oh that wind is COLD today) and took a walk around to see the plants. Every thing looks so good. Lots of coloring coming already. One of my seedlings from Killer X self has the most beautiful red and green coloration right now. Very Xmas-y!

Kevin, I am coming from St. Helens, Oregon, not Washington. I did think about Friday morning rush hour but I really only have to deal with it for a short distance. I would have to come through Portland but sort of go around the backside on 405 to catch I5 and then south. If I get my butt in gear early enough, I don't think it will be too bad. And I will be going against the traffic that is coming into downtown Portland. But going on Thursday does sound appealing. I guess I am just gonna have to decide.

I spent some time outside today also since it was at least dry. But it was cold! That east wind really bites.

I cleaned up a few of my pots. Got the dead leaves from underneath and found all kinds of tiny babies snuggled down under the bigger plants. Just like a hen with her chicks. Imagine that.

Now, I did take my camera outside so I can show you some before and after shots. See if you notice a difference. First photo will be before and second after.
