As a general rule, when you see something outside, it's helpful to note the geographic area in the request. I do a lot of bird, insect, and arachnid identification, and distinguishing between two similar sparrows, for example, often comes down to a combination of season and geographic location. Spiders are even more significant, especially if you want a species or sub-species.
If you're in Michigan and you're posting a Texas plant, the poor experts will bang their heads because they're "sure" they're "right", but they can't be since it doesn't exist there. ;)
I say "outside" because houseplants (or birds in an aviary, spiders in your luggage) are usually transplants from some far-off exotic land, so where they end-up is rarely diagnostic in the ID.
