Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Night Wings')

I received 'Night Wings' back in the spring of 2015. Sorry I did not take many notes, I did not get the bud count or branching info. But it was not really a high bud count and I don't recall it having any outstanding branching.
Looking at the photos I took of it this year, it did bloom for 2 months, and had some very attractive blooms and I thought it was very photogenic (the camera seemed to like it). Sometimes the color seemed to be very dark on certain days and then appeared on some days to be much lighter in color, I did like the dark blooms the best because they were different than most blooms in the garden. I can't say it has been an outstanding performer, but it has been good enough I have no plans of getting rid of it anytime soon.

'Night Wings' is one of my favorite dark CVs. In 2015 I had it growing in full sun and it performed well.
in 2015/2016 it was transplanted to my new home where it found its spot in my new landscape on the outer shade of a mature maple.
It seems to prefer the dappled sunlight over full sun but has yet to realize its full potential.

I failed track the stats closely, but I would say that bloom size is accurate. I do remember the scape heights coming around 18-20" vs. the 30" listed. I believe that this isn't fault of the CV as most of the plants in my collection had shorter than normal scapes.

Dappled Sunlight

The form is old fashioned, but it is still one of the darkest, if not the darkest, in the garden. A fairly plain flower, but quite reliable in bloom here. Can be difficult to capture the color, but these pictures are very close. I would agree that the scapes are not 30 inches here, but they are not stunted.

Night Wings doesn't have any ploidy designation in the AHS database, but somehow it ended up in the NGA database classified as a diploid. I browsed through the list of 18 child plants and with one exception (where the other parent is "sdlg"), the other parent is a tetraploid. All 18 offspring are registered as tetraploid.

I did a few attempts at crossing with other dips, and got no pods. Next year I will try with tets.
