'Whip City Dapper Dan'. The scape was growing well when we had an overnight freeze in October. I wasn't sure what to expect after that. You can see the canna foliage behind to gauge how the freeze effected some things. It's raining oak leaves now
It promptly got warm again and the scape kept growing and though some daylilies are showing definite signs of shutting down for the winter, this one is not. But the first two buds have had to contend with some really cool temperatures. I took this photo this afternoon, but I think it might be the 2nd day for the bloom. It actually finally managed to open before sunset yesterday. I think the stiff breeze was making it worse for the photo. The first bud took three days to open and two days to die to the stage you see in the photo. Cool temperatures are not something the daylilies usually experience during bloom events here, not even the later rebloom scapes. It's supposed to be warmer for some of the subsequent buds if the forecast doesn't change, so maybe they will get a chance to open normally. Whether due to the freeze or cooler weather, the color is more yellow than for a normal bloom. I'll just have to watch those later buds.
