Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Velvet Shadows')

This is a great wee plant in the UK, tolerates neglect, bad weather, shade and continues to flower its little heart out.

Lovely rich red-purple with tiny chalky eye, the colour is always clear, no muddiness, nice round shape and opens well even in cold, wet weather, not blotchy here and keeps its colour all day (although being in Britain we never get enough sunshine to really test that). Laughs off everything that the British weather throws at it.

Now I have learned how to cross daylilies will be using it next year to cross with other minis as it is such a good plant here.

Can't think of anything negative about this one. Love it!

My daughter and I went to a clump sale at a local daylily garden this past summer and this is one of the cultivars that she picked out. We got a large clump and split it between the two of us. It transplanted well at the end of July and continued blooming for weeks after that. It was lovely and the bloom was very prolific and they maintained their colour in the sun. I am looking forward to seeing it this summer.

A favorite of the one's I've grown over the years. I really should get it again.

It was always taller than the registered 15" in my garden, fabulous branching, and saturated color that didn't fade even on the hottest days.

I'm in a warmer zone then those above and it did very well for me too. I had it in part shade and it still bloomed well. I lost mine years ago and looked around all over trying to replace it from a rust free source and unfortunately couldn't find it back then. This daylily reminds me of how many of the older dayliles are tough and take the abuse of even a newbie. A good daylily for anyone.........Maryl
