It is with great joy that I share my 1st peony bloom in 2018. Tree peony Koukamon s always one of the first to bloom in my garden, and it opened today.

Please share your pictures as we move through the 2018 peony season, I look forward to seeing each and every one of them.

Koukamon is lovely.

All types of peonies or just tree peonies for this thread?

Great start, Annette!! So happy to see your blooms.

Unfortunately, there is a chance of a freeze for me Wednesday night into Thursday morning. I am just sick about it. Crossing Fingers! Sighing!

Thanks Oscar!

LG, I can understand how you feel! We're getting down in the 30's as well Wednesday night, the cooler temps are back for the next 2 weeks.

The peony blooms are much later this year, which I'm thankful for.

Don't think I've had any damage from 30s weather, when it gets down in the 20s is when I worry. Hope it stays relatively warm for both of you!

Both are gorgeous blooms. Love that deep wine color of the tree peony. I am so excited to see all of your blooms. I will be even more excited to see mine starting to push out of the soil. Snow is melting fast but no soil in sight yet over peonies.

APS Convention: Anya and I were notified that Alaska Airlines had cancelled the flight we were on to Porland. Moved us to a later flight. We won't get to the hotel til maybe 8:30 PM. We will miss the silent auction and probably dinner. Sad Sighing!

Wow Annette! Love Koukamon's dark deep color! Your pink one is nice too! That's really nice that you get two buds on a potted plant.

LG, so sorry to hear about your freezing weather. HOpefully it will stay above 32F.

Mary, that's so terrible! Is this cancellation practice a norm for flights from Alaska to mainland? So sorry to hear that you will miss some of the special APS activities scheduled for attendees.

So Annette has the first bloom of the season! Who on here will have the last bloom of the year? Will it be Mary, Anya or someone else in other parts of the world?

Thanks Mary and Karen!

Mary, I'm also sorry to hear about your cancelled flight, and it's unfortunate that you'll miss some of the events for the APS Convention.

I'm going to vote that Anya will be one to have the last peony blooms.

To cancel a half full flight is common if they can combine two flights together. I hope we will have some leftovers when we finally arrive to the hotel Smiling

My last flower last year was on July 31 till the very beginning of August but that was a newly planted Amalia Olson, it was the last to break the ground also - June 19. We'll see how the blooming season goes this year.

My last was Garden treasure on July 26th. A well established plant. I divided it last year and moved to a sunnier spot. Got three nice roots from it.

Anya and Mary, it sounds like your last bloom time is pretty close! I hope you both do get a chance to eat once you all arrive at the convention.

So much had happened in the past 48 hours with blooms! I came home to find Shimanishiki blooming. The stems that came up from the base were the graft, not basal shoots as I thought.

Shimanishiki only had one bloom this year, that was difficult to see.
