As I was working outside in the rain today I had a visitor for lunch. Apparently he liked todays special. Camelia flowers!!
I have had lots of deer in my gardens for 40 years now, but they are the generic normal blonde deer. This one is a Black tail deer, and very rare to see. As he was eating and I was watching him, he began walking toward me, my heart was beating so loud. I was holding so still I was not even breathing, He came to about 5 feet from me, and his brother began chomping on the Camelia too, the noise spooked him and he turned back to the plant. It was an awesome experience. The coloring on this deer is just stunning, and because he was younger, he still has the baby fur, (you can see him well when you click the pic)
I have decided to don't need those Camelia flowers anyway, but the Lilac and Hydrangea and Clematis are off limits.
I went to the Camelia bush when they left, and as I picked up the little mess they left, right where the deer was standing laid my expensive glasses I have been looking for everywhere. I work like a logger in my gardens, and have had them fly off the top of my head more than once. I am so lucky they were in one piece. I will be buying some dollar store glasses for yard work tomorrow.
