@horntoad, Jay, just wondering how your hibiscuses are doing? Did they survive our freeze?

My Shirley Temple and NOID red have not shown new growth; they were planted in ground. But the same NOID red in Beaumont (this was the mother plant of the NOID red that was previously mentioned) is sending up new growth.
The Japanese Lantern in pot just starting to have a few blooms; it was sheltered in garage.

A friend lost her mom's 30 yr hibiscus, which was in a pot, even though it was protected. Fortunately I had taken a cutting 2 yrs ago and it survived freeze (covered under patio).

I started Texas Star from seed couple of weeks ago and they're looking good.

I brought most of them in when we had a projected freeze, so I didn't lose many. I lost my Hibiscus diversifolius for sure, but I have some seeds to restart it. I have some missing tags so I'm waiting for blooms to be sure what I have.

A huge stalk broke off my Midnight Marvel during the rain (happened last year too. You'd think I could remember). I cut it into rooting sized pieces and stuck it in potting soil. I find MM roots very easily. Fingers crossed.

Maybe someone from your zone will pop by and answer your question. I know mine in zone 8 seem to take forever to start in the spring.

I've tried to grow midnight marvel twice and it died both times, did not make the winter. So I finally gave up. Is there one with really dark foliage that has fuchsia colored blooms?

I attended the lone star chapter hibiscus show and sale two weeks ago. We got there too late to purchase any; only two variety left. There's another show and sale in June.

Betsy, do you know the date of the June sale? I'm not on FB. My daughter is close enough that she could go to it. I could too, if I go visit her. Lovey dubby

That's odd. I'm in the same zone and same state, and my Midnight Marvel is huge after surviving the last 2 winters. It doesn't leaf out until early May here.
I have it in a drainage area where it gets a lot of water. I think there may be a tropical hibiscus by the same name?

Mine was the hardy one, I bought it at Lowe's here. That is odd it does well for you and not for me. My others do fine, I have 3 other hardy varieties and no problems.

I got mine (along with Berry Awesome) at Lowes in Rolla, one Saturday morning in July 2016, fresh from the delivery truck the night before. They were my first Hardy Hibiscuses, a birthday present to myself, and I drove 2 hours each way by myself to get them. They were so worth it! Lovey dubby I'm totally hooked now. Drooling

Just found Mars Madness and Summer in Paradise at my dinky local Wal-mart - came off the truck today. I have Mars Madness already, so I bought Summer in Paradise. Huge pot - I'll hate myself in the morning when I have to dig the hole.

Rolling on the floor laughing

I know right? I just bought 2 hydrangeas and a hibiscus at Lowes today on sale. What now?! Hilarious! It is nearly 95 everyday this week, so I think I'll just set them up in the shade and let them be for a spell, maybe it will cool off a day or two or at least rain...

Anyone know of a hardy hibiscus that is a peach, melon or orangy pink color?
