I thought I would start a thread about this cultivar because I haven't found much info on it in the Plant Database or on the Daylily of the Day in which it was featured in April 2018. This cultivar was introduced in 2005. I noted that it received several honors .... in 2010 and 2015, but no children listed at all. And no parents of this cultivar are listed. Typically when a cultivar gets various honors, people use it for breeding and we see children listed. But nothing yet on this cultivar. So if you happen to own this beauty, would you please answer my questions below.

Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Licorice Twist')

Daylily of the Day link:
The thread "Daylily of the Day: Licorice Twist" in Plants of the Day forum

My questions are these:

Is this cultivar truly a diploid?

Has anyone been able to produce seeds from it either as a pod or pollen parent or both? I am wondering if this plant is sterile or it is actually a tet. Either circumstance might explain no children. So far, I've had no luck using it in breeding. I have some crosses I made today using it as a possible parent, so we shall see. (Today was the last bloom.)

I appreciate and thank y'all for any comments or answers to my questions. Thank You!

Becky, I got this one last fall. I will try to set pods on it this summer (if it blooms) and I'll dab some of its pollen on both dips and tets this year-
We'll see what we get!

When I see a plant this old with no child plants I tend to "assume" it is sterile.

Now I am not saying that it is sterile. I received Planet Claire and started spreading pollen around as soon as it bloomed. Then I saw a lot of my tags where a pod never formed. Then I read it was sterile. So I quit trying. Then I found pods with PE written on the tags. So today I found 13 blooms and tagged them just to see if I mis-tagged the plants or if Planet Claire might not be sterile.

Diana and Larry - Good luck to both of you! Do share any info or photos of the seedling blooms!

h. 'Licorice Twist' is not sterile and pollen crosses to diploids. Have set pods on h. 'Rainbow Radiance', h. 'Dimpled Dynamite' and a diploid seedling out of h. 'Butterscotch Ruffles' Most were crossed in 2016 and not all have bloomed yet.
