As I promised, I have taken new pictures of the semps in the original thread and a few others. Some have been planted out longer than others.
If anyone can help confirm whether or not the plants are what they were sold as please do.

14.) Sold to me as 'Royal Ruby' but I think it may be the same as the one sold to me as 'Pluto' as they are from the same grower (this particular grower has a history of struggling to correctly label things).

16.) Sold to me incorrectly tagged as 'Jubilee'. This one is starting to look a lot like my 'Hopewell'.

18.) 'Rubellum Mahogany'



19.) 'Twilight Blues'

21.) Sold to me as Jovibaraba heuffellii Hybrid (it came from Altman Plants) and I'm guessing that it is probably one of the most common of the heuff cultivars so if anyone recognizes this, then please point me in the right direction although I'm fine with having it as the generic heuff representative in my garden.

I can't help you with ID's. That can be so hard since they look different in different climates and during different seasons. They're all nice, though.

I love Rojin, your pic makes me want to add it to my collection!

So sorry I didn't see this sooner--semp id is too aggravating for me so I avoid it whenever possible--
However, looks like you are not too far south of me and we probably have rather similar conditions, climate anyway albeit different soil.
And, if you are purchasing locally we could even have some of the same misnamed semps

It is often much easier to say that an id is incorrect.
So, with that, I'll say that yours labeled as Rita Jane

Dirt, I believe that regular 'Rita Jane' looks different than what you show as "real Rita Jane", the rosettes of 'Rita Jane' can sport warts, such that there is a "warty phase" or "warty sport" of 'Rita Jane', but if one looks at the photos in the semp database record, it's typically a very normal rosette (no warts & bumps), with beautiful smooth leaves and watermarks. Here's the regular 'Rita Jane':

Currently it is hot and dry here and my RJ's warts are receding and she is pretty well closed up protecting herself from the sun so if I take another shot tomorrow it won't look like the fabulous rosette posted by Loscolores either, which was taken in August.
Perhaps when it cools off in the fall I'll see smooth leaves with watermarks...that'd be nice!

Anyway, point was that Ângelo's plant doesn't look like RJ in any season because the leaves are narrow and tapered

I agree with Dirt, this one does not look like 'Rita Jane'.


I find the the warty faze only seems to appear on the mature rosettes and also seem to disappear sometime in the summer.

Dirt, most of my plants have come from two growers: Perennial Favorites (in Layton) and Sunshine Greenhouses (in Provo).

Wow, I think you get the prize for most warts on a semp...I cringed when I saw this photo; there can be too many warts on one plant (Ole Warty from Kevin's clinic had less warts...)

well, I think warty is cool
and I can't prove it, but I think after that mamma lived thru last summer she figured it would be best to stock up every available warty spot in preparation for this summer

Yes, Perennial Favorites supplies all of the nurseries around me and was likely the supplier of my not-RJ

If it's true that any 'Rita Jane' can go warty at some point in time, then it's off my list, harrumph. No ugly warts for me.

Mark, the warts disappear some time in the summer. It's not permanent. And it is only the mature rosette that does that.

I understand Lynn, it's just my personal taste and preference, if a plant wants to go warty, monstrose, or contorted fasciate, it's not for me, and I'll toss it into the compost pile without a blink of the eye. That's okay isn't it?
