Last year I picked up a bust, a statuette, and two rabbits. They seem to be made of a plaster like substance. Anyway, I tested the rabbits in the garden. All seemed well until after the first few frosts. The covering (paint or ?) started to flake. I'd like to cintinue to use them but need to stop the cancer. Additionally, before I put out the bust & statue, I would like to coat them with a protectorant. Any suggestions?

As far as I know there is no good way to preserve plaster items outdoors. Cement items last the best.

I have a piece that needs something done to it. The idea I have come up with is... Rust-Oleum professional primer and then outdoor Fleckstone paint. Turning the painted piece to look more like stone. Not my first choice but trying to not lose the piece.
Has anyone tried something like this on plaster or resin outside? If so what results?
Just curious....

I haven't tried that either, but it's sure worth a try to save some of your items that have deteriorated.

@UrbanWild
'i purchased a plaster statue at goodwill a couple yrs ago. I had some leftover outdoor paint from my garage door paint. I put two coats on it and picked up a small can of satin polyurethane (I did not want it shiny) and put 3 coats on. Let it dry 24 hr between each coat. Plaster is absorbent the outdoor pant and poly keeps it dry. Be sure you paint and poly the bottom really good so no moisture gets into the plaster.

This a picture of my goodwill find. It is light weight so I had to put a stake in the bottom so it did not constantly blow over. But it really look heavy.

@ilovejesus99 are you asking me if the garden ornament is holding up? If you are asking me mine is fine. The poly keeps moisture out which prevents any damage . It stays outside yr round.

If anyone have a Ollie's in your area I picked up a product called "Rust-oleum Never Wet Multi Surface treatment. It was .99 for that price I figured I would get it and test it on my birdbath that is terra cotta. Cannot beat a dollar for this product.
