There are tens of thousands of daylily cultivars though so it's often not easy or possible to identify them.

Unless you have a purchased list somewhere for reference, I agree with Sue, with over 87,000 registered daylilies, it may be next to impossible to ever get a correct ID it.

Thanks, you guys! I'll catch a picture of it as it opens fully. It looks very (lighter, brighter) orange now. (I really thought I kept a good list!)

If that is a first bloom in your garden on this plant, don't be surprised you can't recognize it. It is amazing how different a first bloom on some daylilies can look, even several early blooms sometimes don't look much like the final product will.
