As the years tick by I have had to be more realistic about my garden objectives. My garden beds in the back yard and one in the side yard became more than I can handle, filled with lawn grass and other weeds so I gave up on them and just mow them now. It is important to me to have the front yard look nice so that is where I focus. That is where my rose beds are located. There are about 70 roses there and I worried all early spring about getting them pruned and caring for them. In April I saw a crew doing yard work in my neighborhood and got them to come and do the front yard. One man did the roses and I am not certain if he had any experience with pruning roses but he did a thorough job. He cut everything down to about 2 feet treating all the plants the same. I fertilized heavily with 16-16-8 and worked the fertilizer into the surface. Then I poured the water to them with overhead sprinklers and watched them grow. Only problem was aphids. This might be the nicest roses I have had in the 40+ years of growing them. Here are some of the results ......more pictures later......

Yes, your roses are looking strong and healthy ... and, yes, they are truly beautiful ... Smiling
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

We have a bakery here that has a hedge of red knockout roses that they hard prune every spring down to small little stubby mounds and let me tell you, they bounce back huge full and blooming like crazy.

Beautiful roses, Paul! I love the yellow/pink blend rose! Maybe I missed it, but what is that one? Peace? Music Box? I'm on my iPhone, so I can't see it as well as on my laptop. Are you in Southern or Northern Utah? Lisa
