My Caribia and my Oranges and Lemon rose bushes arrived I am not sure of how well they will do they were sent bare root and I do mean bare...no damp moss, no nothing sent just as you see in the pic...the tips are black like they are dying back and the roots on this one in pic was cut way too short....what do you think their chances are?.

Here is the Oranges and Lemons...looked like they hacked the roots off..
both came like this in a plastic bag...what you see is what i got..I was so disapointed .

update: I have planted both in pots the day I got them ...both still seem green and alive but no new growth started on either as of yet. I really don't want to lose my Caribia again this is number 4 I have lost the others as they never did grow...I have my fingers crossed on this one.

My hope would be that the supplier has a replacement policy.

How disappointing. Try to get your money back! If they won't do it, file with your credit card or Paypal. Go to whoever processed your payment.

I agree that you should go ahead and send these photos to the company and ask for replacement or refund as it's unlikely they will survive. You're getting the creeping crud that I call the Black Finger of Death and it's particularly common on bare root roses late in the season (which is the only time they are shipped to zone 5 as compared to warmer zones). Having said that, it's not a lost cause. Ruthlessly prune back anything that looks brown in those pictures which would leave you one cane each on those two roses. Even pruning out that last cane isn't necessarily the death knell, since it can regrow from being pruned down to the graft. Just make sure not to prune the graft off or you'll get nothing but rootstock obviously.
I've seen some rose pull out of this kind of treatment and leaf out VERY late in the season - maybe August or September - after staying dormant for MONTHS. This was rampant on Jackson & Perkins roses a year or two back, and about 1/4 of the very slow to come out of dormancy plants eventually had some new canes and leaves. I figure that during all that dormant time they were putting down roots, which clearly your roses needed with those pathetic stubs of roots. In your zone, those roses might continue to grow and stabilize over time so it's not a lost cause. Since mine only started new growth in the fall, that wasn't enough time to build any resistance to our winters and they were totally toasted over the winter.
So bottom line, keep pruning well ahead of that canker, give them water and shade, but don't hope for too much. The company should replace or refund these specimens.

I agree with nippstress.
The email I sent Donna showed where I would prune the roses - "ruthless". I too ordered from that company - same story. I rejuvenated it by pruning it to ground level. It finally bloomed a year later and guess what...It was the wrong rose.

Margie I just lol'ed. That would be my luck if this sorry Peach Swirl ever blooms.

I sent pics and the info to the nursery and I trimmed off the dead. I have crossed my fingers and toes!

I will not give up on them until they are both completely gone, not sure why but caribias do not like me...all my other plants are doing from well to OMG!....but these two...grrr.

Just curious , why these bare root roses were shipped so late. For Texas it should be around March.

Lots of sketchy reviews with that 'nursery', I wouldn't have risked it. Hope they continue to improve.
