I thought it would be fun and also quite interesting to create some threads of the children of some of our favorite daylily cultivars that we love to use for breeding. Feel free to start a children thread for one of YOUR favorite cultivars!

I will start with a DRAGONFLY DAWN children thread, which I think many here know is one of my favorite daylilies due to it's lovely blooms. I will say though that it does NOT have 1.0 rust resistance here in the south. But I wouldn't call it susceptible either. The rust rating hovers between 1.5 - 2.5.

Ironically, I do not yet have the actual DD cultivar, but I have bought seeds where DD is a parent as well as some very generous folks here on the forum have shared some of their DD cross seeds with me. And some of them are my own crosses which came from the DD seedlings I grew.

The reason I wanted to start cultivar children threads is to give other breeders a sense of what they "might" get when using the featured cultivar in their hybridizing/breeding program. I feel it is helpful to others to share such information! Some cultivars consistently pass on certain traits!

This first thread will be Dragonfly Dawn:

Very nice Becky!!

This is Dragonfly Dawn x Waves of Joy. It has a delicate green cast all over it. I planted 12 seeds and 10 grew with about 6 or more bloomed. Some had nice color but this was the best all over.

Becky TTT24 - Stenciled Infusion x Dragonfly Dawn is amazing. I just got Stenciled Infusion this year and it won't bloom until next year but my dragonfly dawn bloomed for the first time this year. I only got 6 blooms but put it on nearly everything blooming in the yard when it did and I have 2 pods on it.
Dot your seedling is nice also, wish we could see the other kids too. I crossed a few things with Waves of joy this year but DFD wasn't blooming at the time.
Thank you both for sharing your photos, I hope others chime in with their DFD seedlings too.

I moved everything this year and some stuff got lost (not found yet). The other DD seedlings bloomed a couple of years ago. I have to find the other ones when they bloom next year.

Here is a seedling that James (JWWC) got from Dragonfly Dawn x Green Empress. He got the seeds from me.

Then lastly from a couple of years ago he got this beauty Dragonfly Dawn x Waves of Joy, the same cross I planted. He named this one, but I forgot the name.

I see "Through the Looking Glass" bloom form in this seedling. Grandmother trait. 2 generations back from the seedling. I see that happen in genetic traits a lot.

I've been there too, it's so sad when the season starts slowing down and there nothing to cross. I've been harvesting the first of the pods the past few days. I haven't got anything with dragonfly dawn in it yet but DFD bloomed in late June so there's a few weeks to go for those. I know I seen about 10 pods with DFD as the pollen parent but there may be a few more out there.
Is there any of your DFD seedlings that seem especially pod fertile?

All of my DFD seedlings seem to be pretty fertile both pod and pollen IF I can get out in the morning to cross pollinate them with other TET Daylilies.

Daniel,
I sell on the Lily Auction under the username "Ladylovingdove". Becky got seeds from me before. I will be listing a few crosses within a couple of weeks, mostly crosses from Dragonfly Dawn. It got hot way too fast and only the early bloomers set pods. I only got about 40 pods this year. Sad
I put in a new daylily area with sprinklers because of advancing age I'm unable to drag a hose around much. It has helped but I won't be able to do seeds sales much longer. Here is my new area. Five big pots of Dragonfly Dawn is blooming to the left of Mint Octopus, the tall green one.

Wow! Perfect spot under the trees! Amazed at the size of your daylilies! Just goes to show that unless you have very rich or highly amended ground soil, potted daylilies do exceptionally well. Thumbs up

Sadly that's not mine. It's interesting to see the green throat compliment the pattern like that.
