This is my second thread to create some threads of the children of some of our favorite daylily cultivars that we love to use for breeding. Feel free to start a children thread for one of YOUR favorite cultivars!

The first thread I created was for Dragonfly Dawn children: The thread "Children of Dragonfly Dawn" in Daylilies forum

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN:

I do not have the actual God Save the Queen cultivar, but I have bought seeds where GSTQ is a parent as well as a nice person here on the forum who shared some of their GSTQ cross seeds with me. Last year I did get seeds from some of these seedlings that I was able to cross with other daylilies in my garden. One of those crosses bloomed for the first time this year.

The reason I wanted to start cultivar children threads is to give other breeders a sense of what they "might" get when using the featured cultivar in their hybridizing/breeding program. I feel it is helpful to others to share such information! Some cultivars consistently pass on certain traits!

This thread will feature God Save the Queen children:

2 - CCC107 (Drink the Light x God Save the Queen) Sibling to #1.
3 - TTT03 (CCC15 (#1 above) x Marilyn Morss Johnson)
4 - TTT23 (God Save the Queen x Cobalt Rings)

I have other seedlings that have yet to bloom for the first time with GSTQ as one of the parents.

PLEASE consider adding your GSTQ seedlings to this thread! I'd love to see what others have created using GSTQ as the parent to your seedlings!

Feel free to start a children thread for one of YOUR favorite cultivars! Please do not post OTHER cultivars on this thread. Let's keep this particular thread for God Save the Queen children only. Thank you!

I hope you will continue doing this type of thread
In the future. I'm a newbie and this gives me an idea
Of what can be accomplished with plants in my
Raised beds. This is a great idea!!! I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you.

Ron - Thank you for your encouragement to do more of these kind of threads. I do enjoying seeing what various crosses produce, too!

Another thing that you can do is look up a particular daylily cultivar and you will see that many cultivars list "Child Plants". It's at the bottom of the written description of any cultivar. Not all cultivars have child plants, but many do. If you click on the number listed, it will take you to a list of the children and then you can click on each one to find out more information. Only child plants that have been registered and named show up in that list. (I know many more children are not known because many are not registered.)

Here is where you find the "Child Plants":

Becky - You certainly have gotten some great kids out of God Save the Queen crosses. I especially like
#4.

Debra and Nancy - Thank you!

God Save the Queen has been a good breeding cultivar as a parent. It really produces some nice seedling blooms no matter what you cross it with. Sometimes cultivars can surprise you when they are used for breeding. This is God Save the Queen: Daylily (Hemerocallis 'God Save the Queen')

Unfortunately, most of mine that have the patterned or pretty faces are not as rust resistant as I would like them to be. In the south, if the foliage doesn't look good, then the plant can be disappointing. Many of my pretty faces will have to be bred more to increase their rust resistance. But that's part of the challenge and fun of being a hobby hybridizer. I love a good challenge!!! Thumbs up
