Okay so I took my orchid with the fungus on it and cut the rotten roots out then I soaked it in 3% peroxide and water mixed together A lot of the roots had root rot so i cut them off I dusted the remaining roots with cinnamon and changed the soil Do you think it will live? I removed the diseased leaves as well. I'm still worried about her even though i've done what I could. I need help

Kittycat...
Did you use the same product that you would use on house plants?
Or something that looked more like large chunks of bark?
Most orchids grow ON trees with their roots exposed to air and rain, putting them in a pot and getting them to grow is challenging enough. But it's CRITICAL that you use a mix that drains and dries rapidly. Both Lowe's and HomeDepot sell a mix made by 'Better-Gro' specifically for Orchids. In fact, they have several blends. My experience with Miracle Grow products is that they are too fine, and won't drain as quickly as your orchids need.
Good luck with your plant , let us know how it works out.

How about posting a picture of your plant, please? I'll add my 2 cents worth - Phal orchids do not grow in soil. They need orchid bark. When you posted a few days ago about this plant I said "Pot it up in a ventilated pot with orchid bark (you can buy it at any garden center)."

Sorry, you need to go back on this one and rinse off all that soil. Here are what orchid pots look like, see the extra holes int he sides for ventilation? Or you can use a slatted wood basket for even better air flow. You can see the chunky bark the plants are growing in, in the second picture, too.

Yes, Miracle grow has jumped into orchid bark now. I haven't, and probably never will try it, as I don't like any of their potting soil products.

Okay i've taken pictures of both the roots and the leaves. I have a another question though Are you supposed to cut off any limp mushy root even if the top part is hard and healthy?

Thank you for the pictures , Ashlee...they are a huge help.
I always cut off anything that is mushy...it's not going to get better.
I always use a Q tip dipped in cinnamon and daub any fresh cut surfaces,
I've recently been told not to sprinkle the cinnamon all over the roots as that
actually discourages the new roots you want from growing.
I think your plant has a good chance at rebounding...If it were mine, I would go
ahead and cut the flower spike off , so the plant can put all it's energy into getting established in it's new situation.
Good luck with it and welcome to the orchid forum!

Are those all the roots (the only roots)? That pot looks HUGE!

Yes, make sure to put cinnamon only were you need it.

There are way too many threads open on this one plant. Its hard to keep up. Two of the threads have been moved to the Orchid Forum but the third is still in Ask a Question Forum.

Pot is way too large. You select a pot in which the roots fit snuggly into. A pot too large leads often to disasterous watering issues.

Daisy, thanks for pointing out these 3!! threads all dealing with the same plant.
If I may make a suggestion, Ashlee? You absolutely need more Orchids so you don't fuss so much over this plant. Smiling
And please don't start a new thread for every question, it is confusing! Don't worry, people here do see your questions and try their utmost to help you.
