We just moved into our new home and I've ID'd almost everything but this guy. Is it supposed to sprawl like that? Don't know that I've seen something like this before. Thanks!
Mine tends to sprawl over when it is about done blooming. I cut it back fairly hard and it does fine the next season. Some folks find it invasive, others do not (I don't).

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The 2nd best time is now. (-Unknown)

Try to be more valuable than a bad example.
Two possible explanations for the common name: (1) the strappy leaves somewhat resemble spider legs, or (2) when cut, the stems exude a sap that strings out and resembles spider webs.

Deb that is interesting! I'll cut it back once it's done blooming, and am glad to know it'll be back next year! This is the only plant in the yard as far as I can tell.
