Okay, I'm not a newbie but I'm at my wits end trying to identify one of my daylilies.

So what's the problem you may well ask. I can't even begin to describe the flower! It is extremely variable! Here are some pictures taken this year. These are all of the same plant.

The first photo was taken June 27 and the second one was July 4. Both were taken early in the morning.

How would you describe the bloom? I'm not even sure of the main color! Does it have an eye? The only thing I'm sure of is that the scapes are very short (it blooms way down in the foliage).

Does anyone else have a daylily like this? One that can look completely different depending on the day?

Would it possibly be PIGMENT OF IMAGINATION, I know it is variable from bloom to bloom.
If you want to be happy for a lifetime plant a garden!

No, I don't think so. The color varies day to day but never changes during the day.

I know I never bought a daylily by that name. But I bought this on a big daylily shopping trip with a friend. It should have been Clairvoyant Lady. That daylily is in my friend's garden so this is probably something she bought. It was many years ago so she hasn't got a clue what it could be.

Elena the first pic reminds me of Daveo Holman. I have never seen mine do that. Are the varying blooms on the same scape ?

I've never heard of Daveo Holman so I'll have to look that one up. Yes, the varying blooms are on the same scape. The plant hasn't multiplied tremendously but it produces a lot of scapes. It blooms pretty early in the season and the flowers are large and striking. This year we had a LOT of rain and the colors were much brighter. I don't think I've ever seen the color as deep as the first picture before and I've had the plant for years.

Okay, I just checked Daveo Holman and it sure does look a lot like it! The scape height is about right too (22" vs 23" registered). But the bloom size is definitely not 9". This year it was a little over 5" but other years they are probably around 6". But I don't think it is DH because DH has obvious darker veins and my NOID doesn't have that feature. But otherwise I'd probably say it was a match!

Also, depending on how closely you watch your gardens... is it possibly a bee hybrid? Or a pod that broke open and self seeded? I've had that happen...

IAgrl it is definitely a purchased plant. The place I bought it from dug up clumps for purchase. But it isn't something I would have chosen. I'm pretty sure it's one my friend picked.

Does the place you and your friend bought the clumps from have a website? And if so, is their inventory of flowers listed? Or could you possibly send them an email, and ask if they recognize it?

Unfortunately the daylily farm went out of business several years ago. The owner retired and got rid of the vast majority of his plants. So it's a dead end there.🙁
