Thread OP

Hi everyone, newbie here. I have a main focal point of my backyard that i just don't know how to tackle. Area is 24 feet x 8 feet. I already have 3 fern pines planted in the middle and 4 english laurel in the back near the fence (hopefully they will grow into dense hedge). The front of this area is where i run into road block. I would want it to 'flow' with the right side of the house where i have more of a tropical / forest look. However, since the lot is very boxy with the rectangle paver and grass, should i plant something in curves around the trees to soften the look? Or should i just go in there with forest-dense plants?
Your thoughts are appreciated. Thank you.

It's all up to you! What do you want? You can have daylilies and impatiens or you can have ferns and hostas. It'll be nice. have fun!
Hurray!

Even if the garden beds are square and boxy you can plant things in a way that they spill over the edges in different places so the straight edges are softened. If you think that where the cool climate plants meet the tropical ones looks like continents colliding you can keep them apart with ferns which will tie the two themes together. Lola.

Thank you for your suggestion. I went ahead and fill it up with tropical plants. Here it is at 75% done.

I would add a tiered landscape look coming down from your hardwoods. As they begin to grow you are going to want a shrub row to help soften the lower aesthetics of this area. I am not sure with what area you are living in but here in Florida great options would include arbaracolas, Crotons, and Green island ficus to name a few. I will leave my recent projects page on this thread for you to take any designs thoughts you might like! I hope this is helpful. Have an awesome day! https://naplesluxurylandscaper...
