I have been searching through the Forums for a place to share photos of interesting Cloud Scenes.

I don't know where else to share some of these, to me, amazing nature photos of Sky and Cloud. I only have a Panasonic DMC-LZ7 point and shoot camera, but have been taking many garden and plant photos, which are in the Database.

As a gardener on this new property, I many times take my focus away from the plants, the soil and the natural inhabitants which surround me, stretch my back, and look at the sky. And many times I am amazed and stunned, and run for my camera to try and capture the so elusive and fleeting beauty which I am faced with.

Where may I share these Photos? I have no technical tips to give, I just feel fortunate to have the luck of capturing something so surreal.

For example, this evening, focussed on snipping a bucket of sweet pea foliage for mulch, my garden helper pointed to the sky and I appreciated having the camera handy - - - it all changes in just a few minutes - - - then it's gone forever.

Very pretty! I love to look skyward too. That bright coral color in your first picture is gorgeous, one of my favorite colors. Smiling

With the shorter days, I get to enjoy the morning sunrise as I drive to work and the colors are amazing some days. I have a Canon EOS Rebel T3i and have never mastered shooting in low light, mainly because I don't practice with it enough to know what settings to use under those circumstances.

Settings mystify me, but Clouds amaze me.

On July 11, 2011, to the East at 8:40 pm., then at 8:47 pm, and at 9:04 pm., while working in the garden :

Beautiful clouds, and beautifully framed by your trees and shrubs. A lucky catch.

Nora, crop those shots so that clouds are at least 50% of the frame. I encourage you all to look upwards. My Dad was a world famous meteorologist. He was writing a book and needed some better cloud pictures I spent over a year looking up. I could not believe all the different things that went on. Gene

Gene, your Dad was lucky to have you around to photograph those clouds. With your talent and experience, I'm sure they were amazing I tip my hat to you.

So many things you might see. Sundogs are cool. I do not do rainbows anymore though. The pix I get are a diffuse rainbow over a corn field with some power poles. There are places that get rainbows everyday with beautiful settings (hint - Hawaii.) I sell pictures internationally and just cannot compete with that. Moonbows I will do if and when. Slightly off topic I also do pix of northern lights which we get maybe 4 - 5 times a winter. Got some nice shots years ago of the Venus transit past the sun and even one of the Mercury transit. Tornados are an issue. I am the kind of fool that might just run towards one instead of away. But, I am getting older, wiser and slower.

Nora: I agree! There should be a separate site wherever, where just cloud formations, sky vistas are presented. No reason why the Photography forum administrators could not set up same, if time allows! I mean, we have great forums for almost every individual plant species there is, and on and on, but no opportunity in the Photography forum, to zero in on specific subjects, other than photography skills-important as that may be!! Who doesn't look at the sky daily? Someone with Gard.org expertise could advise you on how to start a thread with your desires in mind. Cheers!

Sorry, it will not happen. Over in the house plants section we are asking for a separate thread on just Sansevieria. Dave's response was to get your on thread you need 10K or more posts. Feel good that there is a place to share pictures in general. Frank, my experience is that most people do not look at the sky very often, at least not and think pictures. Gene

Nora, thank you for starting this wonderful thread! Clouds and weather are amazing! We are often blessed here with magnificent sunsets, interesting clouds and crazy weather! One evening last year, I was out taking pictures of my 'Marbles' Four O'clock flowers, just happened to turn around and saw this wall cloud coming...what a thrill! No tornados, but it did get very windy for a few minutes.

Gene, after seeing these enormous or humongous Cloud photos, I hesitate to add any others.
They are very intimidating!
But then, they are done professionally, and I am a rank amateur.

So, I shall hesitatingly present the vistas from my property in Grandview Heights, in Castlegar, B.C., Canada, taken on December the 1st, 2016.

Starting at 9:41 am., looking East. At 10:12 am. the sun breaks through.

Nora et al, except for you know who: Exceptional sky pictures, and your own!! I can't imagine someone not looking up at the sky at least once a day, unless disabilities preclude same! Keep them coming!
