Definitely an orchid and probably an Epidendrum. I believe it is Epidendrum tampensis.

I agree, it's an orchid. I sure hope you didn't take it from the wild, or from private property without explicit permission from the property owner. It looks a lot like our native Florida Butterfly Orchid (Encyclia tampensis)

After giving you the bulbs, I would think grandmother would also offer some information, and may have some pics of the plant in bloom.

In the future, it's easier to ID plant if you take several pics from different angles where they are growing.

LOL Tiffany, his girlfriends grandmother may have no idea what the plant is. I know many Floridians who've lived here their entire lives and yet have no clue of what one plant is from another. Green Grin!

KellyFW mentioned Epidendrum tampensis but I'm sure she meant Encyclia tampensis. Crucifix Orchid (Epidendrum radicans) are commonly grown as landscape plants here in Florida and although I have a neighbor growing some epiphytically on a tree, they are usually grown in the ground as terrestrial orchids.

I'm not sure how that Encyclia tampensis will do in an enclosed terrarium situation because they require really, really good air circulation but keep us posted with updates on how it's doing!

Yes she hasn't lived here very long at all, and they don't seem to be "planted" by any person but mkre likely growing on the tree naturally. i will probably plant it in an orchid mix then, right now i have it in a ziplock bag filled with pine bark and misc organic debirs. Thanks all!

My Encyclia tampensis usually bloom anywhere from April through July, so once you put it in your greenhouse and begin fertilizing, you may see blooms this summer! Please keep us updated with photos!
