Anyone know this plant? Found growing in a semi-wooded area in a park next to a river. Blackpool, BC, Canada. TIA

Maybe a Mayapple just coming up? I've only seen large groups of them, never a single one like that.

I did Google lens and came up with several suggestions but this one seemed to match the best.

I don't think it is either. The vein pattern doesn't match at all.

They all look so similar to me and I have trouble discerning one Mayapple from another but here are two more for comparison:

I can see possibly a variation of Himalayan mayapple, but not the American species, at least from all the photos in the NGA database, and ones I looked on googled sources. Still guessing neither, though.

Coltsfoot, this is exactly what it is! One thing about Coltsfoot is the flowers appear before the leaves. I had just posted a separate ID request at the same time for the flowers, which was also identified as Arctic Coltsfoot (Petasites frigidus). Now it all makes sense, mystery solved!
