I have many different types of roses but am inquiring help with my Hybrid Teas. I have 12 in a double row of beds. All are doing exceptionally well this year, loaded with blooms and growing excessively--but are already growing so much some branches are laying on the ground. We had a couple of rough storms lately and that added to it. I pruned as normal in the Spring, but is there a point I should cut back even now? I'd like to find some type of metal support to lift the low branches from the ground-any ideas? I'm in South Carolina.

I think a lot of it os from the storms the last few days, especially last night. I have'nt cleaned up at all from that. Maybe just some deadheaded and slight pruning would help, but several were already laying low. These are all hybrid teas which I thought are usually upright. The knockouts are fine. This is only my 2nd year with roses, so still learning. Thank you for your help!

Back a number of years ago, I bought a lot of metal stakes with loops at the top... I think they were sold as "flower stakes". I got them from a variety of sources, and most of them were covered in some sort of plastic. I have them in 2' and 3' sizes. They've pretty much lost all of the plastic by now, but I use them all of the time to prop up listing rose canes and other things like delphiniums. They're surprisingly effective, even for good sized canes. Here's a pic I happened to take this morning of a bud that I remembered had one that you can see, just to the left of the rose bud.

Any big box garden center should have them. I used to see them all the time in them.
