Back a number of years ago, I bought a lot of metal stakes with loops at the top... I think they were sold as "flower stakes". I got them from a variety of sources, and most of them were covered in some sort of plastic. I have them in 2' and 3' sizes. They've pretty much lost all of the plastic by now, but I use them all of the time to prop up listing rose canes and other things like delphiniums. They're surprisingly effective, even for good sized canes. Here's a pic I happened to take this morning of a bud that I remembered had one that you can see, just to the left of the rose bud.
