Reid, if you had saved seeds from your Planet Peppers would they come true? Or wouldn't like hybrid tomatoes don't?

Oh now I remember you mentioning them. Good to know that they are a good one!!

I hope to plant a row of them way out front (and I mean way out front) on my yard. Literally next to the sidewalk. I was thinking these would set so many peppers that even if passersby snitched some peppers it wouldn't really matter!!

Deeby said:Rita, I looked at your link for Trinidad Perfume, then saw Atris. Atris is really pretty but the flavor description says it's mild. Does that mean bland?

It means they are a sweet pepper. You know the way bell peppers are a sweet pepper. I have never grown it.

Best to save seeds from open pollinated instead of hybrids. And even on open pollinated peppers are supposed to cross easy.

Actually Atris is a Bullhorn type hybrid. Have not grown it But the type is generally both large and prolific. I grow Italia in this slot. Sweet Pepper (Capsicum annuum 'Italia')

Bullhorns are quite versatile. They are a sweet pepper. The Marconi types like Giant Marconi are even more so, Sweet Pepper (Capsicum annuum 'Giant Marconi')

I had better start both my eggplant seeds and my seeds of my Habanero family peppers mid February to give them more time to get big enough to set out May 1st.

Eggplants... eggplants... trying to remember if I have eggplant seeds! Everything is becoming a blurr!

I have Fairy Tale eggplant seeds because I like the variety and you simply can not find it in plants around here.

I think I have some seed from last year or the year before. I started a germination test over the weekend and I sort of remember trying a couple of those seeds out. I like the thin shaped fruit which Fairy Tale appears to be. I saw Little Fingers on baker creek that I might try if I need to get some.

I had already decided that THIS year, I'd not plant my tomatoes as soon after the last frost: they would just sit there and shiver for almost 2 weeks, THEN would start growing.

I've also planned to plant my pepperws at the same time as my tomatoes, but wait another week or so to plant my eggplants.

I'm still waffling on: whether to get another Earthbox for another tomato plant or two OR for my 3 eggplants, put my 3 peppers in individual pots, WHERE to put another Earthbox and/or those 3 pepper pots. . .

Ah well, I have about 4 months to decide and just about as long to get another Earthbox!!

@thommesM: I use the milk jugs with soil (check out the winter sowing discussion). Last year I only tried this with onions and it worked like a charm! The onions came up like little pieces of grass and I transplanted them into their places in the garden. It seems they like the freeze-thaw but with protection. And now I am trying multiple seeds in a soil block for not only the scallions but also for the bulbs (Walla Walla, and Copra wanna-be: Patterson) so that the soil block is transplanted without too much stress on the plants. Elliot Coleman's books.

@ Larisa: From what I have just read: The beans are supposed to be undersown July 1st with Vetch... corn with soybeans July 1st...onions with white clover July 1st...tomatoes with oats after Sept. 1st...cabbage family with white clover July 1st...peas with clovers after harvesting. I don't know about the mustards but from SallyG they sound delicious too!

Thank you, @sallyg. It is interesting! Probably, I will also leave some mustard for flowering. Perhaps this will limit weeds and improve the soil. I just grow a lot of vegetables, but I don't have too much time for the garden.

Thank you, @FrugalGramma, I have to write this into my green book. I have these seeds besides clover. I'm afraid that the clover will turn into a weed for me. Smiling

Today is the official start of the Spring 2019 gardening season.
Started seeds indoors in the basement:
Onions - Patterson and Copra
Shallots - Ambition and Picador
Leek - American Flag
Peppers - Carmen, Escamillo (red and yellow conical), Takii Ace (red bell), Zavory (mild habanero), and Pageant (mild banana)
Also flowers: Imaptiens, Salvia, Ice Plant, Phlox, Coleus (using up all my old seed, some were over 10 yrs old).

And this year I'm ready for any mice that may show up in the basement.

Looking for seed potatoes. The only local source I know are nurseries and they only have a few varieties usually. Anyone know of another place to look locally for seed potatoes? Online sources want a ton of money for shipping.
