This is an interesting feature that doesn't really affect any existing members of ATP, but I did want to let you all know about it.

New visitors to ATP can now login to ATP automatically, without having to create an account here. All they have to do is click on the "Login using Facebook" button. Once they approve the login, Facebook sends all their information to ATP and then an account is created here for them and they are immediately logged in.

If they already have an account here but aren't logged in, then if they click on that button, ATP will search and see if they do have an account here using the same email address as they have on their profile at Facebook. If such an account exists, it then links their two accounts together and logs them in here, and from that point forward they will always be able to login here using their facebook ID.

I don't love Facebook, but this feature does make it more convenient for our casual visitors who might like to login but don't want to go through the hassle of creating an account. I am hopeful that this will increase our membership numbers.

When I saw pinterest.com using this feature, I knew that eventually we would need it for ATP, too. I'm glad to have that one knocked off my TODO.

Well, ATP just invited me to join by taking the newsletter. I already get the newsletter on my phone, computer, laptop, and iPad. Where else can you send it?

Just teasing! I'm glad we have that because I hesitate to tell some people to go to ATP knowing they have to log in and they won't want to.

Exactly, Sandi. You can now tell them, "If you're on Facebook, you can use your facebook ID to login automatically at ATP. Couldn't be easier!"

Awesome feature. I've used my facebook logon for other sites. It makes a lot of sense to have that feature here too.
