Thread OP

Hi everybody.
I need to replace part of the hedge in my garden and after a very short-lived experiment with Flowering currant (didn't end well) I've decided to shift to something more wildlife-friendly and hopefully more rustic.
I'd like some advice about bushes/small trees I can use for hedging and which will either grow to 5-6ft tall or can be capped at that height without stunting the growth. I'd like something bearing berries or seeds for birds in the Winter and perhaps flowers for butterflies, bees etc during the Summer, albeit the latter is optional.

Thanks.
I am just another white boy who thinks he can play the Blues.

Thanks for your reply.

After some window shopping I am set on guelder-rose (Viburnum opulus) and juneberry (amelanchier lamarchii).
Delivery is set for first thaw.

We really need your planting location.

I grow plenty for birds and butterflies, but... I'm in the south, and most of my faves wouldn't stand a chance in a cold winter setting.
