The fine weather has put me in gardening mode. We usually have a lunch/plant exchange/social event in the the spring. I was thinking if there is interest we better set a date. Maybe late March? Welcome to have at my house again if you want.

I would be interested in a social. March works for me but would need a date to know if I could join you. Where are you located? Sounds like fun!

Shirley we usually hold it at one of our houses. I'm in Lake Stevens. I'm still waiting to here from Deb and Mary. I think they must be out of town.

I will watch to see when plans are made. My garden is at its best in late June and July when the hydrangeas are in bloom. I am in Shoreline and would love to host someday - but when the garden is in color. I do have other plants but I collect hydrangeas. We also love to share cuttings.

Hi Shirley, that's great. I have a few hydrangea as well. We usually do this get together early, seems like March or early April. It's a good time to split perennials and before things are in full swing in our gardens.

Winter Sowing
Hi everyone- I am finally here. Missed this in January, and have not been on the website much this winter.
But, now it is spring. I just went out and bought some plants, feeling more like gardening now the snow is almost gone... I would really enjoy a get together, but don't have much at all this year for trading, compared to previous years.
Still, I have a few things, and much of what I like about the Plant Swaps is just chatting, and especially geeking out in someone else's garden.
My garden is particularly un-showy this year, but if no-one else wants to host I will volunteer. I live in Lake Stevens, near Everett. We could also just meet somewhere in a park with shelters, in case of rain.
Shirley, I also do cuttings. In fact a cutting swap later in the year might be lots of fun. Mostly I do my cuttings the easiest way I know- I collect them in autumn, put them in a pot, put a ziplock over it, and put that in a cold frame under a cedar tree. In spring there are roots. I keep intending to do spring or summer cuttings, but usually am too busy weeding and planting so it somehow does not happen.
I will alert my sister Ali about this, maybe she would want to host, but she does live on Camano Island so it's a bit of a trek for those in Seattle.

I must have missed this myself (I keep messing with my home page and may have deleted all my 'watched forums'). I'm always up for a social garden event. An idea -- UW Arboretum when the rhodies are in bloom. We could do a self-guided tour then perhaps gather somewhere for a late lunch and exchange? I like the notion of somewhere closer to Seattle to include more folks. I'm up for anything.

I am proposing a date of April 6. If that's not ok, April 12. How about a destination of the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden on Federal Way? We could meet at a park for lunch if nobody's house is nearby. Feel free to offer alternative dates and activities. Both Mary (Pistil) and I are available on both of those dates.

I vote for the 12th as they will be having a plant sale that day with all the geeky vendors. Sale starts at 3 but many time a bit earlier.

Ok let's say the 12th, since nobody has said otherwise. I can't wait.

Sounds good to me. We do want to have room to bring home some plants. I have a Subaru Outback. Ali has a Pathfinder. We have not heard yet from Deb (Bonehead), I am hoping she is out of town. I will send her a message now.

I've been a bit conflicted re date, but it looks like it will all work out. The Monroe RV show is that weekend plus my granddaughter is returning home from a 5 month trip (Columbia, Ecuador, Peru). She immediately starts working at Seeds Bistro in La Conner, and will have some serious jet-lag/culture shock. Did anyone else go there when it was Tillinghast Seed Company? I remember getting bulk seeds out of bins way back when (maybe in the early 1980s) and a well worn wooden floor. And the tulip farms didn't charge for parking or entry - they were just trying to sell you bulbs. Ahhh, nostalgia.

I went to La Connor some years ago, they had just turned it into the Bistro, it was nice and they had left a lot of the stuff from when it was the Seed store, as decor. It was interesting.
Well hopefully since our little trip is a Friday, you will be able to do other things too. Depending on how much stuff people think they might buy, we could take one or two cars? Either way, we get in the carpool lane. My sister and I often meet at the Everett Train Station to carpool, but on a weekday there might not be any spaces in the morning. Lake Stevens Park and Ride never seems to fill up, but it is a bit out of the way.

Bummer. I was hoping to offload some more kinnikinnik - did any of it take? I have plenty more...
