Hey guys, I have a question. How much light do you think your ampullaceums are getting?
I have one that I bought and put under lights. The foliage is a pretty dark green color. And yours Gina, seems to be a darker green as well.
Mine is underlights, center tubes but out along the edge. It is kind of like good Oncidium light, maybe 2,300 foot candles according to my light meter.
They don't need Cattleya light? Right?

Mine is in full 'greenhouse' sun. I have no idea how many foot-candles that would be. But I have a couple other large Vandas near it that are also in spike.

I might have to give mine a bit more light.

drdawg said:I have a name! A lady near here had an award-winning plant and she is positive that mine is the same variety. I looked on Google Images and sure enough, my plant is that plant.

Here's what she looks like this morning. There are now 7 flowers and another 23 buds.

Thank you, Glenn. After three weeks, she's lost only two of those 31 flowers and is still a real beauty. She'll probably have to be re-potted after blooming. It's no telling how many years she's been in the wood basket and the wood is getting really rotten. I'm sure the bark media is pretty much toast too. I'll decide on whether to divide her when the re-potting occurs.

I kind of hope you don't divide it when repotting. It is such an extraordinary plant and it has survived years of neglect. Can you just imagine what a bit of TLC will do for that one?

Whoops, sorry, Ursula. I did not realize that this was being posted on the February thread. How do I move the posts?
