So there are orchids that we get tired of, that were influenced by other's excitement, that are taking too much room, that never prosper. Tell all. Which orchids haven't won your heart? Maybe folks can use this to arrange swaps through c-mail. Here's my contribution. This Grcym. Lovely Melody was so happy when it came from Hawaii but it just keeps going downhill. I grow it cold for the cym but maybe it likes it warm.

I have never liked some of the oncidium xs much. I gave this Colmanara Wildcat 'Bobcat' away right after it bloomed.

I still have a Brassidium ( cut to size last Fall) and Mtssa Charles M Fitch 'Izumi' ( also reduced), but I really don't care for their growth habit. In my hands many of Oncidium/Miltoniopsis/Brassia/Odontoglossum hybrids grow like weeds, they get to be true real estate hogs. 'Izumi' doesn't bloom reliably every year for me, although when it finally does, it is very pretty. But in the meanwhile I have a huge green cabbage sitting there....

I don't think I could give 'Izumi' away. It blooms every 2 years. Luckily this type doesn't like it too much here and doesn't get too big!

Oh boy, Ursula, you covered some on my list. These grow on top of each other, out and literally at 90 degrees to the main plant. I like the flowers though. Now I know the rotten Easter eggs will fly in my direction, but I don't care for most art shade anythings or blue flowers. There are exceptions, just can't think of any right now. Hilarious! Also, I love certain plants and their flower form but would probably love them more if they weren't lavender.

Kathy, I like your Grcym....alot (hint). Big Grin

Kathy and Ursula, I couldn't agree more. Now I know to stay away from that Oncidium alliance......space hogs for sure...think I like the Catts and Paphs and Phals the best.
It is comforting to know I am not alone. This one little (BIG) Alliance made me question my interest in orchids....

Well, don't forget that some folks adore the Oncidiums (think Todd and Ken). It all depends on your conditions and what you fall in love with. I have many orchids from this alliance that I love. But right now I'm into miniatures (NOT! I bought floofy cattleyas today from a local seller (Dr. West)!! This will be a shock for Ursula and Fred! Pics on the April thread soon!

I love many Oncidiums too, just not the ones that grow sideways. Floofy Cattleyas, Kathy? Groan.

Someone should have kept me at the asylum today!
I have a fantasy of making another video with my buying shoes on and the orchids following me home like ducklings....
