I just started collecting anthuriums. Grin I am looking to get an anthurium Pallidiflorum. Trying to figure out the difference between anthurium Pallidiflorum vs. anthurium vittarifolium. Anyone know here?

They are completely different plants. Pallidiflorum is from the section Porphyrochitomium. It is what is termed a 'sub-velvet leaved' anthurium. Meaning the leaves have some sheen, but fall short of the 'real' velvet leaved plants in section Cardiolonchium. In addition, the petioles are very long before the real leaf blade starts. And the midrib of the leaf is noticeably raised and white, sometimes termed 'silver'. This species also grows much much larger than vittarifolium. It comes from Ecuador.
Vittarifolium is a species in the section Urospadyx. It is a strap leaf also, but the leaves are flat (no velvet) and the petioles are short. It has purple berries as fruit and comes from Colombia.
Don't be taken in. These 2 plants are VERY OFTEN confused by sellers who do not really know what they are selling, and pallidiflorum would be more rare and expensive than vittarifolium

You have such nice plants, Gina!

Here's some drool worthy photos of Big Bill from the Aroid show at Fairchild in 2004. Sort of small, early days of digital photography!

Gina1960 said:My other most favorite sections of Anthuria is the section Dactylophyllum. These are the fingered anthuriums, and the section Schizoplacium, the palmate ones.
Dactylophullum includes plants like cutucuense, clavigerum,

and Podophyllum

Schizoplacium contains only 3 species (none of which I own)-- angustisectum, longissimum and pedatum (although taxonomists believe that pedatoratiatum and podophyllum may actually belong in this group and they may be moved over.

I'd be very glad to see any other species from these 2 groups that anyone is growing!
