You are all enablers and I am feeling the obsession! I'm pretty sure I am going to order from Paramount. Have you ordered from them before or should I start a another thread for that? Whistling Big Grin

I have and I love their plants. Highly recommend them. Todd Boland (a member who lurks) goes there every year and gets great orchids. Be sure to list what you ordered so we can drool!

Jo came over today to see my orchids and I brought her to Roger West's. We each bought 2 catts.

I got Slc. Newberry Red Elf. http://bit.ly/gsdRVI

Steven, I have received plants from Paramount for many years and the quality has always been fine for the most part. My only complaint would be the size of some/most of the plants I receive. I would say the best plants go to those who can shop in person or those who attend the shows where Paramount is a vendor. Todd has been able to bring home some lovely plants when he is able to shop in person and I have seen him post some displeasure with those that come 'mail order'/'internet order'. Such is the problem for those of us who live in the east. If you live in the Toronto to Windsor zone you are not nearly as restricted as we in the Far East.

Here is a listing on the Canadian Orchid Congress site of Canadian vendors by province, there is also a listing of shows on their site, some of which may be near your area;
http://www.canadianorchidcongr...

Cloud's Orchids would be one of the larger vendors in your area.

Found a new red/orange one (to me that is Hilarious! ), does anyone grow this? I didn't see it in the database... although it seems slightly familiar.

Did you buy it? I just bought D. Kewensis 'Exotic Gold'. All Disas are from South Africa I believe. They must be grown cool in clean sphagnum (boiled to kill bacteria, etc., then cooled down), kept wet daily with only cold rainwater or RO water.

No, I was on their website looking at their other plants. I didn't remember them having orchids before so took a look. I know how Ursula loves those red ones!
Sounds like a fussy grower! It said terrestrial so I figured it would be easy. Shows you what I know!

I have always heard they were difficult but still had to try since I have all the above. I also have been trying to germinate seeds but I don't see any signs of germination after more than a month. I think they would be impossible if I didn't have a cool room.

Our local Lowe's had some lovelies on the mercy shelf. Most were Phals on the last of their blooms but otherwise looked healthy, along with a few cattleyas also past bloom. I picked up a couple of the Cats - Shin Shiang Diamond "Tal Young #10" and Blc. Gold Fire "Carmela" for less than $10. Seriously considering going back and picking some others up just to send as gifts!
