Today we took a few minutes for me to get a quick glance at Borglum's iris and peonies. I only got to see a fraction of what they had and intend to go back next week once I get through some garden chores here. These are only a few shots I took but the fragrance was floating through the air. Next time I'll spend a bit more time, see all of the gardens and dig out my plants if they are still available. The blooms on the peonies were huge.

My husband is patiently waiting for me at the end of the row Whistling

We beat you there by a week, Julia.

What is the girl in the picture doing? Looks like she's spraying?

The one you can see at the far end in shorts is their granddaughter, and she was hoeing along with the other woman at the closer end of the pic when we arrived. Very helpful and sweet person. I am assuming that bed already bloomed itself out and they were cleaning up.
I was just in awe at the fields of blooms but when I saw the peonies and the huge blooms, my mouth dropped. This is my first visit to an iris sales garden and it was such a pleasure even though we couldn't stay long.

We would have gone the week before but we had a family member pass away and we needed to stay close to home. I did notice alot of holes where plants were dug out. Was that from you? Big Grin

Sorry to hear about your family member.

Yes, that must have been Jo and I. Actually we only got 12, altogether, I think.

Did you dig yours? That dirt was hard as a rock. I took my 3 yo grandson to dig.

Pollys 13 year old grandson dug for us.
Hope you got some nice ones. DanaBorglums soil is like mine. I water for an hour befor I can get a spade into the ground.

Well we've had no rain for over two weeks and it is hot. Too hot and humidity is on the rise. I was digging out daylilies and we had to stop since I can't run the well water out cleaning plants.
I did notice how dry their iris rows were and figured they hadn't gotten any rain in some time too. Hopefully when we go back the ground will be softer Rolling my eyes. I've sweated enough over the past few days trying to dig out plants that I don't want a repeat in someone elses garden. Crying

My peonies ( I just have one clump of them) are just starting to open. Nothing like the ones at Borglum's. So many choices Whistling

When I was there on Sunday, a few days ahead of you ,Dana said they dug peonies all day on the Friday before. If he said a number I forgot it.

You're right I did notice no clumps of dirt on the rizomes.

Hate to disappoint, Julia, but I've been going to Danas for years, and the digging never gets easier.

He sure does have some beautiful peonies.

Oh Polly, that is sad. Either we get too much rain or too little. Oh well, the life of a gardener is never easy but definitely
worth all the effort.

I guess, or maybe that's what keeps Dana going strong at 80ish.
