These came up sown from seeds from a trade. It's nothing like what they should be. Are they weeds?

Betsy: They look like two different plants to me. What were the seeds labeled when you received them in trade? Sometimes seedlings look totally different than the mature plants so they could possibly be labeled correctly and just aren't showing the adult plant characteristics yet. Once you have blooms you will be able to get an exact ID, but hopefully someone will be along soon and recognize the foliage. The leaves in the first photo remind me a bit of Celosia but that's just a wild guess.

The seeds I sown were 'primula japonica' and 'penstemon strictus'. I've googled pics of both and they don't look like these.

The first one definitely looks like evening primrose. I planted some seeds this spring and it is coming up just like that. I was advised to plant it away from everything or confined because it can be invasive. Mine is in an area where I'd love something to invade, if it can prosper in my "invasive area" at least it won't be a weed. It's a sunny but poor soil area and DRY so I welcome anything that can grow there, I don't have the time or energy to do anything with that area so I call it my invasive garden.
