I think the blooms are so unusual. The 5 I have would look better if it was 15.We composted the garden last fall and everything seems to be twice as big this spring.

I've not seen anything like that Jo Ann. Very nice. Do I sense an additional buy? Was it a garden center find?

Hi Roland. Great photos. Beautiful Avatar as well. Is that an Arisaema?

I found them on J Scheepers Beauty from bulbs.
I doubt they will have enough universal appeal to warrent a mass coverage of garden center stores much less HD and Lowes.

White Flower Farm might have them .I think I saw them there when I googled for more info.

Yes my avatar is Arisaema kiushianum
he (or she) just start flowering here

The Forelock is found in Turkey probably near Armenia or Iran
by the late Van Duin (he didn't remember the exact place)
it is probably an Allium amethystinum selection

First it was sold as cut-flower
sins a few years as bulb
They grow easy from seed
if you harvest the bulbs
keep them warm (+22ÂșC) and dry them well for a ventilator
they rot easy if stored cold and not well dried

as you can see they produce plenty seeds

As you can see there are different flower shapes
because they are multiplied by seeds

Ohhhhh !!!! I looked on Google and notices some that are different shaps and lengths of "top-knots "
I will get more bulbs from Scheepers this fall. The 5 that are there just dont make much of a visual impact. I wonder if next years crop of bulbs will produce plants that are this tall. The ones I have now are 57 inches. They sure stand out on the row.

They are oddly graceful.

Great information Roland. How long from seed to blooming size?

Your A. kiushianum photograph is very nice. Would you mind adding it to the database? Japanese Cobra Lily (Arisaema kiushianum)
