This one just finished blooming. It lives in rocks and is potted. I keep it in a cool room at minimum 50 degrees F during the winter and outside in the New England summer.
Laelia lucasiana.
Here is Laelia fournieri, just picked up recently from Andy's Orchids so I can't take any bloom credit for this one. I don't expect the first opened bloom to last very long since a small bee was sitting on the plant and it had a small pollinia package on its head. Sure enough it was missing on one of the flowers.
Oh how wonderful!! I got so excited to see the rupicolous thread pop up! I lost the original one of these (another gift from my daughter) and immediately replaced it. It is so wonderful Ursula. Congratulations on not having the buds blast!! It is just as adorable as I imagined! Thank you for posting it.
Congrats! Is it growing in the greenhouse? Mine is in the cool room. Wish it would bloom!
Here's L. lucasiana once more. This is at least the third time it has bloomed for me. Someday I'll learn the sectret to the rest of mine!
I think I do need a L. lucasiana, I love it.
About the fournieri, it had spent the rest of the Summer in full sun outside and is now sitting in the greenhouse right under the glass ceiling in full sun.
Laelia mixta took its sweet time, the spike just grew and grew!
And - as I took it down to snap a picture I noticed a second spike!
And yes, you need to click on that third pic, there is more....
