Could we have an option to choose leave color when doing a search in the coleus part of the database?

The Coleus database currently has no custom databox fields but we can surely add them. Leaf Color is easily done. Do you want it to be just a text field that you can type into, or a series of checkboxes? If the latter, just let me know what choices you want and I'll make it happen.

An alternative is we can add "Leaf Color" to the primary fields that affect all plants...

Checkboxes, so a search can be done for leave color. Color of the leaves is what coleus are know for.
I would love to be able to do a search for say 'Orange leaves'.
There are so many colors.
Main Leaf color:
Orange
Burgundy
Pink
Red
Chartreuse
Green
Purple

I'm really not sure how it should be set up for color. Maybe the coleus experts can tell us what is needed?

Coleus experts: please weigh in!

We can use your list, plus "Other" with a magic text field...

I'm not a coleus expert, but I am a pedantic nitpicker. Please correct the spelling of "leave" (leaf) and "burgandy" (burgundy) before this list is added to the database. Green Grin!

Maybe you could get some ideas from this website I ran across; there's a photo search (only 1115 pix for the 1433 cultivars listed Hilarious! ) by color and/or leaf shape. http://www.coleusfinder.org/pi...

For what it's worth, leaf info would be useful in the general info area as well. I grow many plants as much (or more) for the foliage than the flowers.

another good option for individual cultivars would be sun tolerant. in my mind that's different from sun requirement. almost all plants require a little sun, but only certain coleus tolerate full, hot, all day sun

Who is the lucky person that changes all the Solenostemon to Plectranthus, and adds Solenostemon as a synonym? Is that a Dave all in one-fell-swoop possibility?

Sorry, that was a really bad question I just asked. Let me ask it this way:

Proposal is put forward to:

1) Update all plants to set the genus to 'Plectranthus' (and leave the species as 'scutellarioides') where the genus is 'Solenostemon' and the species is 'scutellarioides'.

2) Of the plants that were updated, then add two synonyms to each of those plants:

Plectranthus amboinicus
and
Solenostemon scutellarioides

Does this look right?

Depends on whether you want to go with ITIS or ThePlantList.org. ThePlantList keeps the current species with reference to the World Checklist of Selected Families, but doesn't give a "last updated" date. ITIS is citing a 2011 "Lamiales of North America" that changes the species to amboinicus.

In short, I dunno Shrug!

Misread ITIS. Sorry.

1. YES
2. Only 1 synonym - Solenostemon scutellariodes

So the name Plectranthus amboinicus is to be completely left out then, yes?
