I bought a pkg of showy milkweed which was 10 seeds for $3.00. I always direct seed as I don't have much luck starting seed in pots. Last Fall I did, however, start these in 4 inch nursery pots because they were so few. Three of them sprouted! Outside in a mostly shady location.

Now what do I do? I moved them to a location where they get a small amount of direct sun. I just used regular potting soil, no fertilizer. It may have been organic. It dries out very quickly. Through the winter I did not water them. I have watered just a little since they sprouted.

They are 1/2 inch tall, at most. One is weak looking and kind of bent over.

Also, I still have the pots that didn't sprout. Should I hang onto them a little while longer?

Thank you for reading.

Give them more sun and water. Repotting them into better soil that holds more water would be a good idea too (use gardening soil). New sprouts need lots of sun to grow to their full potential. I hope I'm not too late!

@greenhouse_7, thank you.

RIP milkweed, we had two days of lovely, soft rain and it did them in.😰. They were only an inch tall at that point. Oh well, I knew it was risky.
