A Nice Place To Sit While Weeding

By Ridesredmule
June 1, 2012

I use an old metal milk crate to sit on when I pull weeds. It is a lot better than squatting or on your knees. Paint it so that you can find it easily in your yard. Plastic milk crates would probably work too.

Me too! Well, I use the plastic kind, but they work really well. They're also good for carrying a bunch of tools around.

I spray painted the crate. Thank you all...

I've gained at least 70 pounds since I started using a plastic milk crate for a stool.....
Milk crate cracked!
Rolling my eyes.
Now I use a 5g bucket.

DO love your blue crate, though!
I remember the metal ones, but haven't been able to find any.

hmm ... we have lots of 5 gal buckets in the garage that my husband gets sea salt in for the aquarium. I use one for fertilizing my plants and he always uses one for a seat when he's working on something in the garage. I think I'm going to paint one cobalt blue and use it for a garden "weedin" seat! Yes!. When I was a kid, milk (and other things) used to be delivered to the houses in glass bottles and the milk crates the milkmen used were metal. I'm not old, mind you, just a senior! Rolling my eyes.
I have some plastic crates that are pretty good, but eventually parts can crack as they get older. I collected some from around a closed convenience store years ago. No company ever came to pick them up, so I figured recycling them was better than them sitting out there. I have one old metal milk crate that DH had for years at his former business.Wish I had more! They don't ever wear out.

The 5 gal buckets hold up for a long time but the wider crates would make for a much more comfortable seat! My husband sometimes uses a recycle bin as a stool when working in the garage, but I don't think the county would appreciate me prettying up one of their containers for use as a garden stool ... although it is meant for recycling and I would be recycling it. Smiling I even have some weather resistant fabric left over from when we recovered old rattan patio furniture a few years ago that I could use to make a nice, cushy seat cushion for my stool. :whistling:

The only thing is recycle bins are a bit too short for me ... I'd prefer something just a tad taller so I need to think of recycling something else or find one of those metal milk crates!!

I need to take a picture of the larger Milk container I have. It is metal too. Maybe I'll find a date on it. I know Mama has had these for as long as I can remember. Yep, Sitting down to garden is the "way to go."

Yep,I concur, sitting down to garden beats kneeling.I've been doing it for years & have used different things which are tucked into different parts of the garden. There is a big clay pot with the broad base & a purchased rocking type seat & more than 1 of my favs, the little Rubbermaid stools.I like the stools because with the legs they are easy to situate in the planted beds.Ha ha,my little cement fisher boy is now sitting on the metal milk crate by the pond.
