This is a shade pot arrangement for the front porch.

Thumb of 2012-06-01/Cinta/23e04d

Oopsthis was suppose to go in container forum and not coleus forum. Sorry

I am sorry I posted my planter in the coleus and meant to put it in container forum.

In my planter....

-White Caladium (Was un-named in a pot purchased at Lowes)
-Elephant Ear Polly (Dark green almost black purple on the back of the leaf)
-Aphelandra squarrosa - Flowers (yellow) all summer.

I winter this in a sunny window give it a sip of water once a month. It looks pretty bad all winter but in Late April I put it outside on the porch and by May it is full and pretty.

I really like that combo. So bright in a shaded area. Foliage is great, 24/7 rather than here today gone tomorrow like blooms.

Is thet Nancys revenge alocasia in the background?
Is it a house plant?
I love it with the white caladiums.
I ask about the alocasia because I planted weee ones ( 2 inch pots ) in my planters. I dream of big plants by July but have no idea. Now that tings are in pots as of 2 weeks I see some enlargement but hope for 5 feet by mid summer.
Does anyone believe I will make it?

Does anyone mind if those of us with front porch planters add what we have?
This is a great thread topic.

I have high hopes for a really big eared plant but might have needed to pot the starts earlier.

Thanks ge1836, I have grown all of the EE probably at one time or another. The best growth I got was full sun and lots and lots of water. They say shade but at least 4 hrs a day they seem to really take off when it gets hot. It will surprise you how fast they grow. Don't forget to give them some fert also.

I use Miracle gro 1/2 strength every 2 weeks..
