I thought it was a variegated primrose.... guess not.. anyone know what it is??.. there is no tag .. but it started off with two colors on the leaves.. or a weed grew up through it

I would prefer to see flowers to be sure, however, it reminds me of Phlox paniculata.

Perhaps Janet can confirm, but my understanding is that variegated phlox are notoriously unstable.

The newest one, Shockwave, is being touted as "the only truly stable variegated phlox!"

So, yes, it certainly could revert. Sad

I think the question we need to ask, is the plant in the same place as your variegated one was? If it is, then it looks like it could have reverted.

I found the history of Becky Towe, it was found in someone's garden here ...

http://pss.uvm.edu/ppp/aug03pe...

I also found one which had partly reverted .. many plants throw up (or out in the case of shrubs) a reverted stem, if the variegated plant didn't survive and it grew a reverted stem from the roots then it's very likey this is what happened.

I don't remember if that's the same spot or not... the leaves that were tiny on the ground before new growth started looked variegated ... like I said the tag is gone... chipmunk removal most likely.. thanks for the info

It does look a lot like phlox. But I was thinking it looks an awful lot like helenium, too. Are leaves opposite or alternate?
