I'm hoping there will be additional "highlights" or articles following the release of the survey. Since I'm not a retainer, just a curious gardener, I don't plan on purchasing the report in its entirety. But the above highlights and the description supplied at the link have whetted my appetite. I'm interested in knowing how these survey trends will shape the next year (or 5) of retail offerings. Will interest in cannibis spark further development of hydroponic systems and LED lighting for plants? Or are those surveyed mostly interested in growing a windowsill plant?

If a company would like additional feedback from NGA members, an article about directions they're considering after digesting this report would be interesting to read (and respond to). Of course, I realize some of that planning is proprietary information due to industry competition... but "maybe this or maybe that" would still be fun to read.

As garden consumers, I think we often see things on the shelves and either think "hooray, at last!!" or "What were they thinking?? How might the results of this survey trickle down to us?

This survey has historically been produced for companies who require the annual insights to help with their business planning. It's not intended to be a product that individual gardeners would ever want to buy.

We posted a followup news item containing some information from the survey, and will likely post more in the future.

I never knew anything about this survey before, but I'm intrigued by how reports like this determine future retail trends. Thanks for sharing some of the "trickle down" possibilities with us!
