We had a beautiful day for planting the central area of Larry's Garden at the 4-Headquarters. I kept track of the overall design and pointed, sprinkled "magic mix" (Osmocote & moisture crystals), and took photos. Once or twice I tried to pick up a shovel (against doc's orders), and Rick gave me a "NO," same look and tone one would use with a naughty puppy... it worked.
Rick, I have to run these photos through a resizing script before emailing them to you. If I email them full rez, they won't go through (files way too large). I have 2 dozen photos to send to Sue, some of them duplicate subjects (different views).
this all looks so great! wish i could have been there. the weather was perfect for it. hopefully when the fall planting gets scheduled i can help out.
"Before"
Plants waiting -- Rick brought many times more than needed today!
We used this lovely Astilbe to accent Larry's rhodi. In fall, we'll put ferns and brunnera on either side of it (where the containers are now)

Donner setting liriope divisions in the arc that outlines & defines this area
Sue, a 4-H administrator who'd worked with both Larry & his wife for 50 years, dropped by and stayed to chat and help move things around. She was a hoot!
Terri brought a pair of planters that we used to flank Larry's rhodi. Caladiums directly behind the rhodi contrast nicely with its deep green leaves.
Rick was a planting fool -- trios of carefully selected hostas ('Segae', 'Krossa Regal', 'Fire Island'), annuals in the planters, caladiums behind the rhodi,
I did a lot of pointing.. LOL
Angelonia as a filler provided great little sparkles of color. 50 Narcissus 'Thalia' bulbs were also added as fillers - but we won't see them until spring!
The memorial marker turned out beautifully.
We decided this informal container worked well as a corner accent, with some colors from the central plant arrangement to welcome you and draw your eye along the path.
Ric used mini pine bark nuggets to mulch the finished planting.
Rick and Sue are going to see about adding a bench, either at the end by the porch entrance to the hall or here, almost directly across from Larry's rhodi, in a spot that's in dappled shade most of the day.
