Just reading all of this. Really sorry. I am packing to go on one of those dreaded trips myself. Anyway, about the plant. I have no idea except to say it looks exactly like my peppercorn plant/vine but the one in the picture has leaves the size Ive never seen.

Thank You! Sorry for the loss that has you packing for a trip. Safe travels, Pam.

We had a beautiful day for planting the central area of Larry's Garden at the 4-Headquarters. I kept track of the overall design and pointed, sprinkled "magic mix" (Osmocote & moisture crystals), and took photos. Once or twice I tried to pick up a shovel (against doc's orders), and Rick gave me a "NO," same look and tone one would use with a naughty puppy... it worked. *Blush*

Rick, I have to run these photos through a resizing script before emailing them to you. If I email them full rez, they won't go through (files way too large). I have 2 dozen photos to send to Sue, some of them duplicate subjects (different views).

We used this lovely Astilbe to accent Larry's rhodi. In fall, we'll put ferns and brunnera on either side of it (where the containers are now)

Rick and Sue are going to see about adding a bench, either at the end by the porch entrance to the hall or here, almost directly across from Larry's rhodi, in a spot that's in dappled shade most of the day.

Frenchy, will you see it in person? I'm so jealous. I love what you're doing to make Larry's Garden a wonderful memorial. 4H was a big thing in my life. I loved it, and learned so much and still think of my years with it so fondly. I wish I could see his garden in person.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jill, Donner and Terri for their hard work in helping make this vision a reality. There is no way I could have pulled this off by myself in a day.

I'm sure Larry is smiling down on us all. Actually, he's most likely been critiquing the project all day long.

Now, it's time to take some more ibuprofen and call it a day.

Here's the updated and prettied-up version of our garden plan (Sue said it would be nice to have that for Friday also).

The blue-grey rectangles on the right side, up against the railing, represent a bench on a flagstone pad. For economy, we could use packed stone dust or pea gravel, but since the walkways seem to be flagstone, I think they could come up with a couple pieces for us (or even some broken walkway slabs).

Scrolling up and looking at Rick's photos of the site, I think packed stone dust with stone border (Rick, you don't have any rocks, do you?) would be the softest "match" with the flagstone walkway and concrete steps (at least I think the steps and entranceway were concrete... or were they also flagstone?) and brick wall bordering that end of the bed. Terri found the most wonderful bench in plow & hearth, with a design of dogwood blooms to go with the existing dogwood tree near that end of the bed. (Yes, it's a dogwood -- we looked closely at it!)

Here's the bench. Rick, LMK if you still like it. There's a free shipping and 20% off coupon today... It's in my shopping cart now; I was thinking I'd get it and if you decide on a different one or if they didn't let us put in a bench, then I'll put it under the willow tree. Joyanna has been lobbying for a new bench there.

Jill, please go ahead with the bench.

On a more depressing note, I've been advised by my sister-in-law to get a lawyer to make sure I get something out of the estate. Since I live paycheck to paycheck, I have no idea how I'm going to afford a lawyer.

argh, Rick. I'm so sorry. I keep praying for a signed updated will to be found in Larry's office!

Some lawyers will work for a % of recovered money -- some of those are ambulance-chasing shysters, but others are a boon for those who couldn't otherwise afford a retainer. Call around.

Looks like there are also state statutes limiting the amount an estate/probate lawyer can charge, various formulas to determine the definition of "reasonable and customary."

I have no knowledge of this firm, but I found this article from them that may have some useful info, much of which you probably already know: https://steinsperling.com/esta...
