This morning Jo and I went to West Hartford, CT to the Nutmeg Orchid Society Show & Sale.

I love the Dar Walnut Valley, nice plant too. I think I like the peloric Phal.
So many great looking Orchids.....

We went to a presentation about growing miniatures by Marguerite Webb of J & L Orchids. She recently returned from the Grand Prix Show in Japan.


Then off to the sales.


Glen Decker from Piping Rock was there.


This seller had just returned from the Taiwan Show with great phals!

Yes, the quality of the plants was quite high. It was good for Jo to see them and of course I answered her questions as they came up. She got an earful and eyeful at this show!

Lunch was Peruvian and heavenly at Cora Cora! All three of us really enjoyed it and it became Daniel's official birthday party (tomorrow is his birthday). There were even wonderful Peruvian musicians playing!

I love the variegation on the Den moniliforme.

I am growing my Mexipedium xerophyticum almost like a rupiculous Laelia, but I have it in CHC with added crushed Oyster shells. ( the Oysters were delicious) It took me years to get mine to bloom. ( I did start out with half a small growth with roots). It finally bloomed really well last Summer. Yours looks like a nice pot, so you will have it blooming probably this Summer already.

Heh, the Pot Fairy Land looks familiar! Good choice!
The little Phal looks cute too, I think that's the one I picked up as a present. ( I see it twice a week...)

I had a wonderful time and learned SOOO much from Kathy (thank you) the growers and the flowers themselves. I will post some photos of the plants I chose. I am so happy with all of them, and hope that I have created an environment in which they can bloom for years to come.

Aside from the orchids, I had lots of fun with Kathy and Daniel. I am solo this week, so between work, taking care of my orchids and my dogs, and all of the normal household chores, it might take me a couple of days to get a few photos up.

No rush, no pressure Jo!! I had a giggle this AM when watering and thinking about what it will be like for you to visit this crazy orchid lady's house!!!

BTW, Belaschick is pronounced Bayla's chick. Turns out Jo's name, like mine, is about her pooch!

I'm still chuckling about buying Fairy Land without remembering about yours Ursula. I live in a very consistent but unconscious state!

They look great! What does the third phal you bought look like? (I was yakking with Glen when she was with the Phal lady.)

How do you inventory your orchids? What information will I want to keep. So far I have a spreadsheet with type of orchid, date of purchase, dates of bloom, but I am sure that there are other factors that one might want document. I really am enjoying my plants.

The third Phal is not in bloom but it is Phal Tying Shin Cupid "Montclair". Who names these things?
