Evan, the islands do have quite a bit of reserved land. The local authority, Redland City Council owns quite a lot too. However, most of it is in private hands. Land on the islands is quite cheap - you can buy 1000 square metres for $22k. Waterfront is much more. But no one is buying these days. Fine by me - I have no neighbours and lots of wildlife. The nice harbour is Perulpa Bay a favourite mooring area and crabbing place: Blue-swimmers - delicious.
But... one day it is all going to get discovered because we are quite close to a capital city. Sigh.
P.S. You do hear the lizards crunching snail sometimes.

Even bigger still!

I have three mainlanders coming over to see the inflorescence finally open - even one flying up from country's capital, Canberra. I hope it is finally quite big and they aren't disappointed. Fingers crossed.
It is actually an Australian native but only known in the wild from the far north.

Hey gleni!
Great pics!
Next time maybe make a new thread?

It's great you have others interested in your plant!
I wouldn't have thought that species would be much of a draw there.

How tall was the last leaf in your amorph?

Keep the pics comin!
Please tree mail me for trades, I'm ALWAYS actively looking for more new plants, and love to trade!

Aren't these tropical Amorphs really susceptible to cool weather rot? I pulled mine in too late so will have to replace.

Hello Midnight. Yes, I should have done a new thread. But it was just inexperience - I didn't know I could.
I didn't measure the last leaf. I have a picture somewhere. I think about 4 feet.
I think this flower should be open tomorrow. The people coming to see aren't gardeners. They tick new experiences.

Evan, I have a nursery friend to the north of here that leaves his in the ground all year too. I am about 27degrees 30 minutes. This one is at least 7 years old. But I have lost two other plants in that time.

It has opened at last.
16" (41cm) tall and 15" (38cm) diameter.

My understanding is that the green ring on the edge of the flower isn't normal, that makes it a different cultivar!

Rare in these parts, green rings might be the norm there tho, I don't know.

Nice growing Glen. Thanks for the "time lapse" which is fun to share in. Is the smell gone by now? I don't see any pollinators.

Is that leaf peeking in at the leaf from this plant or a pup?

Sway, does the outside of the spathe base look like Glen's? Will keep my eye out.

Evan, it is a pup. There are 5 small shoots at the moment. The big leaf will shoot after the flower finishes.
That is interesting about the green ring. Alas it is pouring rain here this morning. I am glad I got the photography done in time yesterday.
The smell hasn't been too bad. The blowflies were only arriving in ones and twos. The ants were quite interested. They have a difficult time getting out up the inside wall.

Evan, it was a fungus I spotted yesterday in the garden. Wonderful architecture.
There is a thought it may be Clathrus ruber Basket Stinkhorn or The Cage. It didn't take long for the it to collapse and the ants to get into it.
