Has anybody had any experience ordering used books through Amazon or Barnes and Noble or any of the large book stores? I've been looking for Color Echos in the garden by Pamela Harper. It is not in our public library system. I order from Amazon all the time but have never purchased through used books stores that operated through Amazon.

I have, Pippi, and have always had success. The used books are rated so read their ratings and get the highest rating for your money. I order through Amazon and I've never had a problem with the used book sellers. I do keep good records though, just in case. And they always ask for feedback too.

I agree I've ordered used books lots of times, through Amazon and also through half.com. Only had a problem one time when a vendor sent me the wrong book....and I was reimbursed for the entire order, including the other two books that were fine!

That is good to know..Thanks for all your comments. I didn't know about half.com. Will check it out. How does that work when you order used books from Amazon. Does it come directly from Amazon.com or from the used book store owner? Have you ever sold any to Amazon.com? A friend told me she sold some dishes back to them. I see on the website, that the used book store owner is rate for efficientcy and I noticed they grade the condition of the book.

It comes directly from the bookseller if you are ordering through Amazon.
I haven't used half.com either but I'll give them a try sometime.

In some ways, I prefer half.com. If you order more than one book from the same seller there, the shipping is reduced. That is not the case with Amazon. And both seem to be equally safe.

http://www.abebooks.com/ has a great selection and prices of used books.

Have found many Gardening Books there for pennies.

Some of the used books are shipped by amazon and you can get free shipping on orders over $25.
As you can see in this picture the seller is bearbooks but fullfillment is by Amazon the second one is shipped by the seller HPB_Outlet. If you are buying just one book in this case it would be cheaper to go with the one from HPB, but if you have an order of eligible books you usually save choosing the one from amazon.

I get gardening books from Abe books, and boy did I luck out once. I got an autographed book by Tasha Tudor.

I have three books by Pam Harper. I met her, BTW, at a garden show a couple of years ago, a wonderful lady. My favorite is Time Tested Plants. Designing With Perennials is also nice, as is Color Echoes.

Here's the list from Abe books. I wouldn't hesitate to get the first one listed, 1.00 plus shipping.

don't forget Powell's Books in Portland, OR. http://powellsbooks.com is the website, I think. Or you can google it. Great selection, great prices, reasonable shipping - very reputable, and a great store to visit as well. a little slice of bibliophile heaven, right there in Portland.

That's funny. I've never come across a used book that was shipped by Amazon, either. Guess a lot depends on the type of book you're looking for?
