With Diane's permission, I am reposting what she wrote to the AHS Robin. I live about an hour away from Duane and Debbie. They have been very active in local daylily clubs for a long time. Very, very nice people. Diane, who is running the fundraiser, is not a member here at ATP.
You can reach Diane at (take out spaces)

and, here is the LA page where Diane is listing the donations up for auction.

Friendly Robins-
Duane Hurlbert is now in a nursing home suffering from pancreatic cancer.
The situation is dire. As you can imagine, the mounting expenses are
tremendous. Many of us want to use the plants that he loved to help allay
some of the expense. In fact, a number of Robins have already offered
plant donations. Several people have been working on details of Benefit
Fundraisers.
Kathy Sorenson has decided to handle the hosta donations only on the hosta
library site. So, anyone who would like to donate hostas, please email
Kathy at*
[email protected]*. The hosta auction lisitings will appear
at:
http://www.hostalibrary.org/cg... beginning this
Saturday, June 16. As soon has we have the "seller name" we will share it
here.
I will be handling the daylily donations on the Lily Auction. I hope that
you fine folks will keep me busy with donations as well as bidding!
Here are a few guidelines for donations:
- Email me (
[email protected]) the plant name(s), number of fans,
when available for shipping (or to be arranged) and a picture (80K if
possible-if necessary I can reduce .jpg files). Include your snail mail
address for my use.
- Feel free to donate plants of any value. Even plants that sell for
single digit amounts will contribute when added to all. Groups of three
different cultivars that have something in common can raise the value of an
individual lot.
- Suggest a starting bid for your donations or I will use 1/2 of the
Eureka price.
- Auctions will request shipping fees. I will send those fees to you
via my personal check as soon as practical. Hopefully most of your
expenses will be covered.
- Mike Longo is unable to reduce or eliminate auction fees for this type
of fundraiser so those will be deducted from the proceeds.
- As each auction ends, I will send each donor the purchaser's plant,
address and contact information. I encourage you to contact them right
away. Donors are totally responsible for shipping plants and corresponding
with purchasers.
- Each auction will run for 7 days.
- I hope to have donations to list this evening or at least by tomorrow,
June 12. All auctions will have Hurlbert Fundraiser in the title of the
listing. Donors will have their names listed in the auction text. Plants
will be sold under the seller name "hemdkp."
- I will send the proceeds via my personal check, directly to Debbie.
Hopefully, we can wrap this up over the next few weeks and then I can send
the check with an appropriate greeting card.
One guideline for everyone: bid early & often! The more we raise, the
more we can help our fellow Robins, Debbie and Duane. Not everyone has met
them personally but they are good people! I have met them while judging
exhibition shows, through many Plant Trades and some private
correspondence. Several years ago, when I suffered a daylily disaster,
Debbie & Duane gifted with many of the plants that I lost.
Looking forward to quickly seeing lots of donations and HIGH bids.
Thanks everyone.

and, this followup post

Donations are pouring in. Thank you! Keep 'em coming. We need bids, too!
Get the ball rolling!
I've begun posting auctions but please check back often on the Lily
Auction. Due to my garden, foster kittens, monarch butterfly rearing and a
few other things, I can only list a few at a time. When/if I get caught up
on the postings, I'll let you know.
Will try to answer some general questions here.
Seeds are fine. I'll need description (parentage), number of seeds, when
you will ship and starting bid amount. Any other info you want to include
is fine. Someone who frequently sells seeds on the auction, please let me
know how much to charge for postage.
CASH DONATIONS - Following Martha's excellent suggestion, I am happy to say
that we can make cash donations. Please make checks payable to Debbie
Hurlbert. You will mail checks to Bob Blacker. Contact him at - He
will maintain records and forward the checks. Don't hesitate to send any
amount. Remember, even $5 or $10 donations will be significant when added
together with others.
