Duane P. Hurlbert, age 57, of Crestwood Ct., Howard, Ohio, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 1, 1954 in Westfield, New York to Donald Hurlbert and Sharon (Cleveland) Romba. Duane served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force and retired as a senior field service engineer for AGFA. He was a member of the American Hosta Society where he served as a garden judge and a life member of the American Hemerocallis Society. Duane served for 10 years as a horticulture judge for the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs. He was a member of the Shepherds House Church of the Nazarene in Howard, Ohio.

He is survived by his mother of Albion, Pennsylvania, his wife of 39 years, Deborah (Dennis) Hurlbert, two sons, Rev. Phil (Danita) Hurlbert of North Royalton, Ohio and Justin (Laura) Hurlbert of Sunbury, Ohio, three grandchildren, Kalyn Hurlbert, Aubrey Hurlbert and Joel Hurlbert, a half-brother, Andrew (Arlene) Romba and a half-sister, Becky Romba both of McKean, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by a half-sister, Cynthia Jane Romba.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. The family will observe a private graveside service with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions in Duaneā€™s name may be made to Hospice of Knox County, 17700 Coshocton Ave., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 or the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs and can be left at the funeral home.
