That's what it seemed like, but it also could have been a secret orchid community gag!

Your worst fears confirmed, Carol. Pot. Susan Fender is now Rlc. Susan Fender (Rlc. Caesar's Head x C. Mary Ellen Carter). Don't shoot the messenger. Shrug!

Good morning all!

I was going to add a pic. of my Vanda to the database. But I got a bit confused...Is there any way to tell which it may be? I was looking for a general "Vanda" entry, but there doesn't seem to be one... Confused
Can any of you tell which Vanda I may have? It is the same plant...The first picture was taken outdoors on the deck...different lighting...

Tara, as beautiful as your plant is, since it is a Noid Vanda, it wouldn't make sense to add it to the database. There are so many blue Vandas registered, it would be pretty impossible to figure out for sure which one it is. You would have to be able to figure out who grew the plant and take it from there.
I would just be happy and enjoy the plant and not guess the name.

I am not sure where to put this. I just picked up this orchid book for growing orchids in Queensland at a nursery.
Thumb of 2014-11-24/Gleni/9783cc

It mainly concentrates on Cattleyas, Cymbidiums, Oncidiums, Paphiopedilums, Phalaenopsis and Vanadas.

Interesting, Glen. Let me know if you glean some tips on Cyms, Paphs and Phals. They're all a real challenge for me.

I've been blaming the hot, humid summer weather all this time . . . Rolling my eyes. But Queensland sure has plenty of that so ?? Shrug!

It writes about using aspirin for increasing disease resistance. I had never heard that before?

What a nice offer, Glen, but I'll have to graciously decline. I open up a book on orchids and instantly fall asleep. Rolling my eyes. Something about the relaxing effect? I've not yet fallen asleep at my computer, but I'm sure that is coming . . .

Interestingly I had heard of the aspirin tip before as well, and have tried it on some other plants - aroids and my poor declining citrus tree - but not on the orchids. Will give it a whirl. It's a challenge to get the darn pills to dissolve, but . . well I'll put some in water tonight, and maybe by tomorrow they'll be softened up.

No problems Elaine. There is a section on disinfecting to stop the transference of viruses too.

Don't care if it's a miracle cure, I'm not going out and buying chewable aspirin for my orchids . . Rolling my eyes.

Not so much disease with the Cyms Paphs and Phals but just a 'failure to thrive', especially bloom. The Cyms are big and bushy and look great, but don't bloom. The Phals just struggle, do that wilty, wrinkly thing at intervals, and didn't bloom well at all last year.

I have one Paph that is in bloom right now, a healthy, clumpy plant that was a gift from some rellies last year. It had 4 blooms when I got it, and this year it has 3. That's a decline in my book. Crying Three other Paphs I've had, and two of them just up and died, the other is hanging on, puts on a leaf each year and will never bloom in my lifetime at this rate.

Actually, I did manage to get the regular aspirin to dissolve pretty much. Crushed them and put them in warm water last night, and they are nice and mushy this morning. There's hope!

I figure, if they dissolve in my body, they must dissolve outside it eventually as well.

Add hydrochloric acid (stomach acid) and they will dissolve quickly! Whistling It just amazes me and disgusts me at the same time when a drug manufacturer shows (on TV) their medicine dissolving in water more quickly than their competitor's drug. They want you to believe that this has bearing on how fast their drug is absorbed. Talk about "truth-in-advertising". I guess people buy into this nonsense.
